BioPlastIC
BioPlastIC aims to increase the use of renewable raw materials for the production of plastic products. As an innovation cluster located in and around North Byern, the project will include a variety of activities and initiatives to drive the research, development and implementation of more sustainable bio-based solutions in the plastics industry. Main activities to take place in BioPlastIC such an innovation cluster are:
Building a network of companies, research institutions, universities and government agencies to pool expertise and resources.
Fostering collaboration between actors throughout the value chain, from raw material suppliers to end users.
Establish a network of multi-purpose demonstration facilities to provide low-threshold testing capacity for companies.
Technology transfer through training and workshops for companies and experts to support them in integrating renewable raw materials into plastics product manufacturing. This is particularly important for existing development projects with TRL 6 or higher.
Support in the implementation of research results in marketable products and processes by analysing market-opening and market-promoting measures.
Identify market opportunities for products made from renewable raw materials and develop marketing strategies.
Promote sustainability standards to increase consumer confidence in sustainable plastic products.
Organise innovation competitions and hackathons to promote creative ideas and solutions based on existing development projects.
Information campaigns to communicate the environmental and social benefits of plastics made from renewable raw materials.
Active participation in public discussions and political decision-making processes to promote the development of more sustainable plastics solutions.
An innovation cluster on Increasing the use of renewable raw materials for the production of plastic products would thus play a central role in promoting sustainable practices in the plastics industry and help to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce the environmental impact of plastics production.
