It was founded in 1961 as a non-profit association and aims to promote research and development as well as education and training. The FSC has steering and control units, so-called committees, which monitor and control the strategies and activities of the association and advise the management and institute management. The tasks of the committees and their honorary members are oriented towards the welfare of the FSC and its societies.
Membership in the FSKZ e.V. association. (the Association for the Promotion of the Plastics Centre) makes it possible to achieve top positions in the team - to network, to profit from the excellent contacts in terms of content and to be able to represent plastics-specific interests more sustainably with a successful team.
Over 130 researchers, developers and technicians carry out more than 80 public projects and about 600 industrial projects every year. We have received several awards for our innovative research in recent years, including the REHAU Prize, the Otto von Guericke Prize, as a Landmark in the Land of Ideas, the GreenTec Award, the German Sustainability Award for Research and the very important German Future Prize.
Our specialist conferences and networking events are in many cases regarded as important industry meetings and are indispensable for the plastics industry, not only because they generate new impulses and ideas, but also because the mutual exchange and networking among us keep us together, make us strong and develop us further.
The SKZ offers exclusive access to over 400 industry contacts - this opens up networking opportunities with experts and decision-makers from business, science and politics as well as industry-relevant sources of information.

SKZ is also politically committed to the interests of the plastics industry when it comes to shaping regulations, standards and legal provisions in the interests of the plastics industry with decision-makers from politics and the corresponding national and international standardisation bodies and committees in such a way that they do no harm to our industry. In particular, we are concerned in our lobbying work with issues such as sustainability, the use of recycled goods and microplastics, to name just a few examples. Showing the differences between "disposable" products and high quality e.g. geosynthetics, which have a lifespan of several centuries, is extremely important. We also fight to properly present the benefits of plastics to the public and avoid misinformation. You can cast your vote through us.
SKZ members from industry and trade are given access to our expert circles, can influence R&D projects and are given full access to the results. In addition, they have the opportunity to participate in joint industrial research projects. To ensure that conflicts of interest are excluded from the outset, research bodies are not admitted to our expert circles. SKZ members are also welcome to provide a conference leader or speaker from their company at our expert conferences and in this way position themselves in their target group.
Often, medium-sized companies cannot afford their own research department and depend on institutes like the SKZ to conduct application-oriented research. The SKZ forms a bridge between basic university research and products on the market along the entire development process from pre-competitive research to collaborative projects and bilateral developments. We provide you with fast and economically oriented solutions.
SKZ members gain access to our expert circles, can influence R&D projects and have full access to the results. In addition, they have the opportunity to participate in industrial collaborative research projects. For example, they can also gladly provide a conference leader or speaker from their company at one of our specialist conferences and position themselves in their target group in this way.
It has been shown in many places, especially during the Corona crisis, that the plastics industry is systemically relevant, i.e. indispensable, especially in medical technology, of course, but also in food packaging and many other areas. Nevertheless, in the field of plastics technology in Germany, we have been registering a worrying decline in student numbers for some time now - due to the negative image of plastics, and especially among the younger generations.
SKZ members benefit from our commitment to training the next generation, because we give lectures at universities and technical colleges. In our school laboratory, we inspire more than 10,000 young people every year as new blood for the plastics industry in normal times, and in cooperation with the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce we have been running industrial foreman and technician training courses in "plastics" and "rubber" for more than 50 years. Here we can look back on an active alumni network of more than 3,500 master craftsmen in over 100 courses.
SKZ offers its members the opportunity to present themselves at various trade fairs as part of a joint stand that we organise for you.
