Würzburg Plastics Institute responds to growing challenges in various industrial sectors

Thanks to various additions to its laboratory equipment, the SKZ is now able to offer its customers an even more comprehensive range of resistance tests in corrosive environments. The newly acquired equipment for storage tests in aggressive media such as acids, alkalis, salt solutions or cleaning agents at high temperatures of up to 200 °C or with simultaneous exposure to radiation is specially designed to meet the requirements of modern industry for a wide range of stress collectives.

Resistance to aggressive media required
Relevant application examples include plastic components in the automotive sector, which must be resistant to a variety of aggressive media. The extended range of tests makes it possible to test materials for their chemical resistance and long-term stability at the high operating temperatures that occur later in use. Another field of application is battery production. Plastics are typically used here, where it must be ensured that they have a high long-term stability against electrolytic solutions. The resistance of plastic housings, hoses or containers to disinfectants and other aggressive chemicals is also very important in the field of medical technology.

Driving forward the development of safe and durable products
Dr. Bernhard Ulmer, group leader in the SKZ testing laboratory, underlines the importance of the new testing options: "With the expanded laboratory equipment, we are actively responding to the growing challenges in various industrial sectors. Our expertise in materials testing not only helps manufacturers to meet legal standards, but also to drive forward the development of safe and durable products and open up completely new fields of application."

New tests available immediately
The new testing options are a further step by the SKZ in expanding its position as a leading service provider for plastics testing and thus continuing to be available as a reliable partner to the industry. Interested parties can now take advantage of the extended resistance tests and thus examine and validate the safety and reliability of their plastic products even under critical environmental conditions.
