The SKZ Plastics Center and the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) are jointly offering a practice-oriented course of study leading to the legally recognized qualification of "Certified Industrial Technician in the field of Additive Manufacturing". As there is no training in this field yet, the prospective industrial technicians are pioneers with optimal qualifications in a technology of the future.

Driven by the progress of the technology and its growing importance in various industries, the demand for qualified specialists in the field of additive manufacturing is constantly increasing. In order to meet this growing demand and to give specialists the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills, the IHK Würzburg-Schweinfurt, in cooperation with the SKZ, offers the practical study program "Certified Industrial Technician with a focus on Additive Manufacturing". The official IHK qualification is aimed at anyone interested in gaining a comprehensive overview of additive manufacturing. The course covers the entire 3D printing process chain, starting with materials and their processing, design and additive manufacturing processes. Other topics such as energy, hydraulics and occupational safety are also on the program.
SKZ and IHK have been working together successfully for decades
The SKZ in Würzburg has been working successfully with the IHK since 1967, as the institute is a partner for the practical part of the "Certified Industrial Master in Plastics and Rubber" program. A comprehensive curriculum prepares participants for the challenges and opportunities of additive manufacturing. Course content includes application technology (mathematical and scientific fundamentals, industrial and application technology in the field of additive manufacturing) as well as business organization and production management. Practical experience at the SKZ and excursions to industrial cooperation partners are also part of the course.
Developing solutions for complex manufacturing tasks
With the recognized degree, participants are qualified to develop solutions for complex manufacturing tasks that require advanced technical and practical skills in production and automation. The planning, implementation and optimization of technical processes - such as design, production, commissioning and service, taking into account economic, legal, energy, environmental and safety-related criteria - are also part of the industrial technician's remit.
Preparation for current labour market requirements
"The Certified Industrial Technician in Additive Manufacturing course offers a unique opportunity to deepen knowledge in a rapidly growing area of modern manufacturing," said Matthias Ruff, Head of Sales Education & Research at SKZ. "We are proud to provide participants with a practical insight into additive manufacturing that will prepare them for the current demands of the job market. Thanks to our many years of theoretical and, above all, practical knowledge from numerous research and industrial projects, we at SKZ can draw on an incredible wealth of experience in the field of additive manufacturing."
The next internship starts on September 14, 2024 and ends on June 20, 2026, and will be conducted part-time through live online teaching. The course is eligible for a BAFöG upgrade. The IHK is offering a free information session on June 3, 2024 from 17:00 to 18:00 via MS Teams.
