About DIN EN 1555
The DIN EN 1555 series is a European standard that specifies the requirements for plastic piping systems for gas supply. It focuses on underground pipelines made of polyethylene (PE) and defines their properties, test methods and areas of application. The standard plays a central role in the standardization and quality assurance of gas supply systems in Europe.

Essential contents of DIN EN 1555
DIN EN 1555 essentially specifies which polyethylene materials are suitable for the manufacture of pipes in order to ensure high quality and durability. In addition, specific dimensions and tolerances are defined with regard to dimensioning in order to ensure interchangeability and compatibility within gas supply networks. The PE piping systems are designed for a maximum operating pressure of up to 10 bar. Standardized test procedures are provided for checking the mechanical and physical properties of the pipes to confirm their suitability for use in gas supply systems. In addition, the pipes must be clearly marked so that information about the manufacturer, material type and dimensions is clearly visible.

Compliance with this standard is crucial to ensure the safety, efficiency and longevity of gas supply infrastructures.

Central areas of application
The DIN EN 1555 series of standards covers various areas of application. It is used in gas supply, where it enables the transportation of combustible gases such as natural gas, biogas or hydrogen mixtures at a maximum operating pressure of up to 10 bar. Another area of application is underground piping, which ensures a long-term and low-maintenance supply under different ground conditions. The standard is also used in the renovation of existing steel or cast iron pipe systems as well as in the construction of modern gas pipeline infrastructures.

A contribution to sustainability
The DIN EN 1555 series not only raises safety standards, but also reduces the environmental impact. The easier processing and longer service life of PE pipes contribute to a more efficient use of resources.
