To successfully implement the heating transition in Germany, one thing is needed above all: suitable specialist personnel. The plastics center SKZ, with its location in Halle, therefore offers various qualification options for personnel in the district heating sector. Participants from the fields of pipeline, civil and plant engineering are also qualified for this industry.

The energy transition is one of the major issues of our time. In the coming years, up to 100,000 households are to be connected to the district heating network every year. To achieve this heating transition, several thousand kilometers of new district heating pipes must be laid, among other things. The speed depends above all on the capacities of skilled personnel. Utility and pipeline construction companies are already experiencing difficulties due to a shortage of skilled workers. In response to this, measures are needed to attract personnel through training, apprenticeships and further education.

The Plastics Center SKZ with its location in Halle offers various qualification opportunities for personnel in the district heating sector. Participants from the fields of pipeline, civil and plant engineering are also qualified for this industry. This means that specialists can be trained to properly install plastic casing pipes, which are used in the construction of district heating pipelines. In a five-day course based on AGFW worksheet FW 603, participants learn about and master the use of couplings as a connection technology for plastic casing pipes. This involves not only the actual installation, but also the foaming of the hollow space in the couplings with polyurethane. District heating requires appropriately insulated pipe systems to minimize energy loss during transport. The course also covers the installation of core connections that can be used to monitor and locate faults in district heating systems. The course concludes with a theoretical and practical exam.

Furthermore, plastic welders can be certified for welding plastic-sheathed polyethylene (PE) pipes in a five-day course according to DVS 2284 with an examination according to DVS 2212-4. The course is also characterized by a high proportion of practical work. PE welded joints are produced on couplings and casing pipe fittings. But there are also corresponding offers for construction supervisors, foremen and quality assurance staff. For example, the SKZ event “Sleeve assembly on plastic casing pipes (KMR)” took place in Halle on June 26-27, 2024 in cooperation with AGFW.
The event was not only a great success for the site's training business. The participants praised the informative and practical as well as well-organized program. The special topic in district heating pipe construction attracted numerous participants, so that the participant places were quickly taken.

For this reason, there will be another event from January 21 to 22, 2025. The focus will again be on interesting technical presentations by speakers from well-known companies and lecturers from SKZ Halle. The practical live demonstrations of socket assembly and special welding processes, which are popular with participants, will be presented by SKZ employees on both afternoons. The content is about the quality-compliant work and process sequences for the assembly of plastic jacket pipe systems, taking into account new European standards and AGFW regulations. In particular, in consideration of the revised AGFW guideline FW 605, certified companies must keep their technical decision-making level (responsible specialist and quality representative) up to date through regular training. At least one training session must be attended during the certificate period.
A cozy evening
The evening event in a cozy restaurant in Halle's city center offers the opportunity to make new contacts and exchange ideas. Experts and interested parties in the industry who deal with the procurement, planning, construction management, installation, quality control and network operation of plastic jacket pipe systems are cordially invited to this AGFW/SKZ event.
