On March 13 in Berlin, Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke honored SKZ and nine other companies as climate protection companies. The SKZ and the other companies were selected from around 200 applications by the Advisory Board of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e. V.. With their innovative strategies, the companies are making a special contribution to achieving the German and European climate targets and are pioneers in their respective industries.

With the award, SKZ has joined a nationwide circle of companies that are working in exchange with each other on future-oriented solutions for overcoming the climate crisis. The companies stand out for their strategies of corporate sustainability and investments in renewable energies, energy efficiency and climate change adaptation measures. At SKZ, creative employee motivation projects for environmental and climate protection promote sustainable corporate development and demonstrate that the entire SKZ is pulling together on the issue.
"Climate and biodiversity crises threaten us equally. With climate protection and climate adaptation measures, companies can also help to preserve and restore habitats and nature. From raw material extraction and throughout the entire production chain, companies need to be committed to this. The preservation of our livelihoods requires efforts from politicians and companies alike. Pioneers like the climate protection companies are all the more important because the necessary transformations must also be tackled quickly in the economy," emphasized Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke in her speech at the award ceremony. The certificate was presented at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. "We are very pleased that our work in the field to date has been honored by the admission of SKZ to Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. For SKZ, the admission is an important step towards climate neutrality. We ourselves will continue to work at full speed on the topic of "climate protection and plastics", also in cooperation with companies from the plastics industry, in order to leave behind a world worth living in for future generations," explains Prof. Dr. Martin Bastian, Institute Director at SKZ. "The technical exchange with member companies on organizational and technical measures will also yield new perspectives that will help us all move forward in climate protection," adds Julius Ort, climate manager at SKZ.
Since 2009, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce have been awarding companies for their ambitious climate protection goals and efforts in energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies as climate protection companies. The companies are part of the association of now more than 60 climate protection companies. The selection process took place under very strict criteria.
