Würzburg institute honors innovative plastics companies

“The selection of premium partners includes companies that (further) develop innovative topics together with us, sustainably promote and expand research, and decisively advance the plastics industry beyond the standard,” reports Matthias Ruff, authorized signatory and sales manager for education and research at SKZ in Würzburg. T.EN Zimmer GmbH, known for its over 70-year tradition in polymer process technology, has established itself as a leading provider of technologies, engineering services, project management and procurement services for the production of polyesters, 1,3-propanediol, polyamides and specialty polymers. These technologies also include biodegradable and recyclable solutions.

Processing methods for polyester production and recycling
T.EN Zimmer GmbH has been a valued network member of the Förderverein des SKZ (FSKZ) since 2018 and has successfully collaborated with the SKZ in various research projects in recent years. The focus was on the process engineering design of innovative treatment processes for polyester production and recycling. The latest projects of T.EN Zimmer GmbH include testing and piloting a PET recycling technology to ensure the initial quality for re-polymerization, as well as the development of biopolymers and processes for recycling PET textiles to the basic monomers. “For us, the SKZ is an important research partner in application-oriented development. The experience and know-how in complex plant design, the wide-ranging technical equipment and the flexibility of the SKZ are invaluable for our projects,” emphasizes Mr. Stefan Deiß, Head of Product Management and R&D, T.EN Zimmer GmbH.

Development of new process solutions for PET recycling
The Material Development, Compounding and Extrusion (MCE) division offers companies comprehensive support in the development, characterization, preparation and processing of innovative material systems. With customized solutions, the team, headed by Dr.-Ing. Johannes Rudloff, addresses a wide range of requirements in plastics processing and recycling. Thanks to a versatile machine park in the processing pilot plant, almost all complex process requirements can be met. This has also been the case during the close cooperation with T.EN Zimmer GmbH in recent years, in which the division has made significant contributions to the development of new process solutions for PET recycling and biopolyester processing, in order to jointly pave the way for a sustainable plastics industry.

About the “Premium Partner” award
Since 2020, the SKZ has been awarding the “Premium Partner” prize to companies that work together with the Würzburg Plastics Institute to advance the plastics industry. Initially, the coveted award was given only to partners in the field of education. Starting in 2024, the award will also be presented to partners in the field of research, who particularly stand out from all of the SKZ's strong partner companies.
