Totally tight or explosive? New test option for hydrogen gas permeability

SKZ extends its broad portfolio in the field of permeation measurements with a measuring system for explosive gases. From now on the gas permeability of hydrogen can be determined on foils.

Standard-compliant testing of hydrogen gas permeability according to DIN 53380-2 or ISO 15105-1 is now possible.

For standard-compliant testing of the gas permeability of hydrogen, e.g. according to DIN 53380-2 or ISO 15105-1, SKZ has added a measuring device for explosive gases to its extensive test equipment.

The Pubtester GTR-G3 enables the determination of the transmission rate through plastics by measuring pressure differences. "Thanks to three independent measuring chambers, parallel measurements with different sample gases are possible. As a standard, measurements can be performed on films with thicknesses between 20 µm and 3 mm at temperatures between 5 °C and 95 °C. In addition to hydrogen, measurements are currently being performed with oxygen, helium, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Other gases are available on request," says Dr. Linda Mittelberg, head of the Spectroscopy and Permeation Group.

SKZ supports companies in all aspects of gas permeability and offers individual solutions for product-specific test geometries, measuring gases or special applications.

Permeation properties to different gases are relevant for numerous plastic products. Especially in the hydrogen economy, plastics are indispensable and material parameters are hardly available.
